Jim is responsible for leading the Chordant team and developing strategic business relationships. Before assuming his current role as InterDigital’s Executive Vice President, IoT Solutions, Jim served as InterDigital’s Executive Vice President, Research and Development, from 2009 to 2014 which included the role of head of InterDigital Labs from 2013 to 2014. In those roles, Jim led InterDigital’s R&D teams, overseeing the development of standards-based technology as well as next generation technology initiatives, including advanced air interfaces, machine-to-machine – Internet of Things, bandwidth management technologies for Wi-Fi®/cellular integration, and dynamic spectrum management solutions. Jim is currently a board member of Convida Wireless, a Sony – InterDigital joint venture for Internet of Things and 5G technology development. Jim also serves on the Dean’s advisory board for Hofstra University’s School of Engineering and Applied Science. Jim earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the State University of New York at Buffalo, a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from NYU-Polytechnic University, and an Executive Master of Business Administration from Hofstra University.
Arty is responsible for Chordant’s business strategy and operations. She also serves on the Steering Committee of Convida Wireless, a Sony – InterDigital joint venture for Internet of Things and 5G technology development. Arty has over 20 years of experience in technology incubation, business strategy and project management in wireless telecommunications and Internet of Things technologies. Arty holds a Bachelor's degree from IIT- BHU, India, a Master’s degree from HKUST, Hong Kong, and an MBA from Columbia Business School.
Mika is responsible for developing the business by engaging with strategic partners and customers. Mika has 20+ years of wireless industry experience spanning from handsets to semiconductors. Prior to joining InterDigital and Chordant team, he held various strategic leadership positions at Nokia, Renesas and wireless startups in Europe and the US building, developing and steering businesses with various OEMs, ODMs, operators, semiconductor and other technology companies. Mika holds Masters of Science in Business Management from University of Oulu, Finland.
Vanja is responsible for product planning, customer and partner engagements, trade shows participation, and other product marketing activities. Prior to joining InterDigital and Chordant team, Vanja held a variety of roles that included consulting with the top US MSOs, carrier sales with a leading ICT solutions provider, strategy planning for one of the top Canadian carriers, program and solutions management, and doctoral research on wireless communications systems. Dr. Vanja Subotic holds Bachelor and Doctorate degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Western Ontario in Canada.
Mike is responsible for leading a team architecting advanced data management systems. Mike has significant engineering and organizational management experience. Prior to joining the Chordant team among other roles, he led the InterDigital ASIC/DSP organization, which was responsible for chipset design and development of the InterDigital SlimChipTM product. Before Mike’s 20+ year career at InterDigital, he developed satellite-based communications systems at Lockheed Martin and developed proof-of-concept technologies for the Navy as an R&D contractor. Mike holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Rutgers University and an MBA from Hofstra University.

Jeff Smith has provided strategic and tactical expertise to companies ranging from start-ups to the Fortune 500. Jeff has been a visionary and has built teams in successful startups in Internet, Web Hosting, Security/E-Commerce, and M2M/IoT. Jeff’s teams have won several technology and business awards including The Winner of the First Autonomous Flying Robot Competition, several M2M/IoT Platform Awards, as well as being recognized as a “Pioneer” by M2M Magazine. In 2002, Jeff founded SensorLogic, now one of the industry’s leading Telemetry Service Providers (TSP) Acquired by Gemalto. Jeff also co-founded Ublip acquired by Numerex in 2008 and served on the Numerex Board as well as CTO and Chief Strategy Officer until 2015. Jeff has served on the boards of technology companies including Verio, Numerex (NMRX), Winning Habits, CreditAnswers, Catapult Health, Vericenter, SensorLogic, and Ublip. Jeff has a Bachelor degree in Engineering Science from Trinity University, and a Masters of Science and Doctorate degrees in Computer Engineering (Robotics and Artificial Intelligence) from the University of Texas at Arlington.
Brian McCarson is the CTO of IoT Strategy and is a Senior Principal Engineer at Intel Corporation. Brian specializes in system architectures for IoT, data extraction, data visualization, innovative data analytics, and multivariate problem solving. He leads the Technology and Standards Team within Intel’s Internet of Things Group Strategy and Solutions Enabling Division and is the system architect overseeing the Intel IoT Platform. Brian has a Master of Science in Materials Science and Electrical Engineering from North Carolina State University.
Jens Weitzel is Managing Partner at Yabusame Partners, a global consultancy focused on working with early-stage startups in the areas of strategy, financing, and business development. Prior to Yabusame Partners, Jens was a senior technology executive in the enterprise software and mobility space in Silicon Valley. Jens was instrumental in building and managing SAP’s global partner organization. As Senior Vice President of Business Development at ParkWhiz, the leading mobile parking reservations company in the US, Jens drove growth through strategic partnerships to Series C funding. Throughout his career, Jens gained broad experience in B2B and B2C businesses with companies across Europe, Asia and North America. Jens is a Mentor at StartX, the Stanford University Startup Accelerator, and advisor to several early-stage technology startups.
Daniel Ruiz is the Chief Executive of Meridian, the UK’s £100 million connected and autonomous vehicle acceleration programme, which was launched in September 2017. Daniel joined Meridian from Dynniq UK Ltd, where he was Managing Director. As MD of Dynniq, Daniel led a 500-strong team tackling traffic challenges on the road networks in the UK and Ireland by developing, installing and maintaining a number of technology-based solutions. He previously held roles as Head of Real Time Operations at Transport for London (TfL), Launch Director of the UK’s intelligent mobility innovation centre (the Transport Systems Catapult), and Programme Director for the Transport Coordination Centre for the London 2012 Games. Daniel lives in Winchester with his wife, Mel, and a Portuguese water dog named Rufus. Children manifest themselves on occasion in the guise of two daughters and a son in their twenties. In his spare time, Daniel plays trumpet with the Winchester Symphony Orchestra, and is sometimes seen cycling round Hampshire.
